Violet Evergarden: The Movie and Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! won the prestigious Anime of the Year award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2021. They were shortlisted out of over 457 entries screened and broadcasted in 2020 (From October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2020)

For the individual awards category, Reiko Yoshida won the award for best original/screenplay for Violet Evergarden: The Movie, while Haruo Sotozaki won the award for best director/episode director for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train.
Akira Matsushima won in the animator category for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, Mikiko Watanabe won the prize for the background, color, and image category for Violet Evergarden: The Movie. Lastly, Yuki Kajiura won for the sound and performance category for Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld.

About Tokyo Anime award Festival (TAAF)
Started in 2002, TAAF was a part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair. It was initially called the Tokyo Anime Award. Previous winners of TAAF 2020 include popular movies like Weathering with You and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba under movie and TV category winners of the Anime of the Year award.
