Weekly anime ranking in Japan [3rd – 9th April 2021]

Anime has been steadily gaining popularity in India and globally. There are few legal anime platforms that Indian anime fans (aka “Otakus”) can use to watch anime content in 2021. However, some OTT platforms, such as Netflix and Amazon video are slowly expanding their anime archives. Recently, PVR Cinemas have also started distributing anime movies. My Hero Academia was one of the anime movies that has released in several Indian theaters. Now, are you curious to know the anime ranking in Japan?

So what is Anime?

According to the Oxford dictionary, Anime is a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children. In Japan, anime is popular not only amongst youngsters but even adults! In other words, anime is a powerful content that can make an impression on everybody.

Here is Japan’s top 5 anime ranking watched on OTT, such as Netflix and Amazon prime video, etc! The data came from viewership on several OTTs between 3rd and 9th April 2021.

#5 Detective Conan

Detective Conan, which released the latest anime movie on 16th April, ranked fifth from eighth last week.

Shinichi Kudou, a high school student of astounding talent in detective work, is well known for solving several challenging cases. One day, when Shinichi spots two suspicious men and decides to follow them, he accidentally becomes witness to a disturbing illegal activity. Unfortunately, he is caught by the men. They do him with an experimental drug formulated by their criminal organization, leaving him to death. However, Shinichi lives to see another day, but now in the body of a seven-year-old child.

#4 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba fell to fourth from third last week. The latest anime movie earns more than 13.7 crores in BO, and the news just went viral. Also, the team has announced its DVD to be released in June 2021.

On his way back, night falls, forcing Tanjirou to take shelter in the house of a strange man, who warns him of the existence of flesh-eating demons that lurk in the woods at night.

#3 Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken is also known as “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.” This anime jumped into the third rank from last week’s fourth.

Thirty-seven-year-old Satoru Mikami is a typical corporate worker who is perfectly content with his monotonous lifestyle in Tokyo. During a casual encounter with his colleague, he falls victim to a random assailant on the streets and is stabbed. However, while succumbing to his injuries, a peculiar voice echoes in his mind and recites many commands that the dying man cannot make sense of.

#2 Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan retaining its second-ranking. The team kept creating surprising news for the ending. “Attack on Titan for Titans” was one of such.

Publishing the last chapter of manga on 9th April, it has come to an end with a long-term serialization of 11 years and seven months. On Twitter, related words such as “Attack on Titan,” “Isayama sensei,” and “Spoiler Attack” are trending one after another.

#1 Jujutsu Kaisen

The most-watched anime of the week in Japan is Jujutsu Kaisen! Since January this year, Jujutsu Kaisen has been in the top 3, along with Kimetsu no Yaiba and Attack on Titan.

Jujutsu Kaisen Synopsis

Yuji Itadori is a genius at track and field. But he has zero interest running around in circles. He’s happy as a clam in the Occult Research Club.
