Cosplay Film Festival is now open for application

Dokuso, a Japanese independent-film streaming service, announced to open a cosplay-themed short film contest to encourage young creators and cosplayers. The contest named Cosplay Film Festival will be hosted in association with the World Cosplay Summit Executive Committee.

What is the Cosplay Film Festival?

The unique feature of this contest is that the organizer opens for a story idea and its plot at the first stage. And then, applicants move to the next step; selecting actors, especially cosplayers who would like to appear in the films.

By coordinating video creators and cosplayers, Dokuso aims to provide a new form of video production and a new stage for cosplayers to showcase their artworks.

Following the first round, the eight winning films out of the entire applications will move on to the second stage selecting actors. After the casting process, each of those who passed the first round will create a pilot film.

These pilot films will be screened at the “DOKUSO Eiga-kan” for the final round by a public audience. The audience will vote for the Grand Prix film, the Best Actor Award, and the Best Supporting Actor Award. The Grand Prix winner will receive a production subsidy of one million yen to produce a full 30-minute film.

No video production experience is required at the planning and plotting stage.
