Halloween has become one of the annual events in Japan in the last decade. More and more Japanese people have started to enjoy the culture of halloween by painting body-art, putting Zombie makeup on, or getting dressed up in an unique costume. There are multiple halloween events held during this season.

Halloween is also trending amongst the Cosplayers in Japan. The Super Sugoii team sneaked into the biggest Halloween cosplay event in Tokyo, called ‘The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival’ and would love to share the experience with you!

The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival

As one of the biggest cosplay events in Japan, this festival garnered approximately 1,05,000 visitors including 20,000 cosplayers in 2018. The event began in 2014 to promote the Ikebukuro prefecture as a new ‘Subculture Mecca’ with Otome Road as its hub. Cosplayers gather to mingle and take part in many activities held throughout the event itself. During the festival, the entire town of Ikebukuro becomes its venue – Cosplayers can be seen on main streets, parks and even inside stores.

The governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike and Toshima-ku Mayor Yukio Takano embraced their love for cosplay by dressing up in their cosplay outfits and appearing on stage!
